Divorce Mediation can minimize the negative effects of divorce.
Divorce is a stressful and difficult experience for most people. Dreams are shattered and lives are changed. You worry about your children and your financial situation. You want to move through the process with dignity and respect. Mediated divorce agreements are negotiated in private instead of a public courtroom.
Mediation is a non-adversarial way to divorce that is almost always less expensive and more compassionate than fighting in court or letting a judge make decisions for your family. With my guidance, you and your spouse will decide what is best for your family. We consider the needs of each family member and reach an agreement that meets those needs. In mediation, my goal is a WIN-WIN situation. With my background as a mental health professional I can help you clarify your goals and articulate your needs. I act as a neutral like any other mediator. We look for creative options for resolving the divorce issues. Lawyers will be used to create legal documents and act as consultants but they are not driving the process. This can save you time and money, as well.
Most of my clients that choose mediation are experiencing anger issues, communication problems and conflicting emotions. You and your spouse can be experiencing conflict and still mediate your divorce. Almost every couple who chooses to mediate will successfully mediate their divorce. Mediation is appropriate for people with limited resources as well as very wealthy individuals.
I became a mediator because I saw the anger and pain that a high conflict divorce can create for families and wanted another option available to my clients. I have been mediating divorces for over 18 years and have mediation and advanced mediation training. In addition, I am a Special Master for the State of Connecticut, which means I work in court to help high conflict families resolve their conflict and avoid a trial. Divorce is a difficult process but I can reduce the pain, stress and cost for you and your family.
In addition, my first career was as a CPA and I have a strong financial background that can expedite the financial part of the mediation.
For couples who prefer Collaborative Divorce I am an experienced coach with advanced collaborative training. I can help you and your spouse resolve difficult issues fairly and respectfully. If you have concerns regarding your children I will help you find a solution that works for your family.
